65th Renegade Praetorian Guard (65th RPGL)

Motto : Nil Satis Nisi Optimum / Only the best is good enough

CO: Brigadier General (RL) MacAulus

One of the original two Praetorian units to defect (the other being the 51st) with Grand General Douglas Constantin. The 109th Praetorian (a nearly all female unit) defected ten years later, after the Patria Potestas.  They had been the loyal bodyguards of Caesar until the imposition of the Patria Potestas.  These relegated women throughout TOG to the status of chattel.  Before their departure they took revenge by spacing Caesar Buntari. The unit  is now the 109th Renegade Praetorian Guard (Minerva).

The 65th is the least recognized RPGL due to the 109th RPGL Minerva status (always an attention grabber) as well as the 51st RPGL's recent participation in numerous deep raids into TOG held territory.   Despite this, the 65th is arguably the best legion in the Galaxy.  While Praetorian Legions are generally considered the finest Legions in the galaxy units it is accepted that   Renegade legions on the average are considered to be better trained than their TOG counterparts. The 65th has a high espirit de corps and is not as unforgiving (as far as quarter and surrender go) on the battlefield.

The High Commands on both sides of the fence realise this (not that  TOG would admit it). The 65th hasn't lost in along time, nor does it intend to stop until it sets foot on its native Terra again. So far the legion has been as good as its motto and intends to live up to it no matter the odds.

Uniforms: The 65th (along with most of the Renegade legions) have delved deep into history to find symbols that identify units fighting for a republic (ancient Roman and Greek Republican symbols are popular, as are most insignia from the United States, being an ancient republic). This being said, they have adopted several variations on a theme from the USMC, including the dress hat (the anchor through globe is replaced with shield with a relief of terra on it, with crossed sabres in the backround), and dark blue dress uniforms. The Renegade
R is prominent on shoulder patches and on battle standards.

29087th and 932nd Renegade Air Mobile Legions

CO: Brigadier General (RL) Donovus (29087th) / Prefect (OTL) Scipius (932nd)

Nearly seventy years ago when some Renegade legions sought ways to distinguish themselves from their former TOG comrades ,a group of legions including the 29087th (formerly of Shannedam Command) and 932nd decided to pattern  themselves after ancient terran "Airborne" units. Since "Airborne" generally suggested infantry units these legions decided to go with the designation  "Air Mobile". By specializing in combat drops onto heavily defended worlds the seven legions that gave themselves this "Air Mobile" status built up a hefty reputation for pulling off the impossible. As it goes, they are some of the best motivated and innovative units on the field today.

Uniform notes- Airborne and Air Mobile insignia are prominent.  These are status symbols within the units. Also, all units have adopted the wearing of the ancient symbol of airborne units, the maroon beret.

497th Royal Marine Regiment

CO: Colonel (CWMC) Harbaough

The 497th is one of the rare Marine Regiments not split up into companies among a naval squadron and thereby gets to show off the Marines indomitable spirit on the battlefield. Though overshadowed in recent centuries by the decline of boarding actions and "shore raids", the Marines stand ready as always to act as a quick striking force whereever they may be called. Mostly infantry the Marines are still capable of giving a larger unit a severe beating if one does not respect the prowess of these "Jarheads".

Their heritage is a mixture of USMC, Royal Marines (UK), and the original CWMC from before the Snow Plague. Like the 2nd ACR, even though it is only a regiment its list of battle honors rivals that of any legion's often acting as the vanguard (or as they like to refer to it "kicking the door in!") of major assaults. Though they run a high casualty average due to  their "never quit no matter how hard" attitude, there are always replacements of high quality desperate to join the unit.

78th Commonwealth Highland Legion

CO: Major General Connor McIntyre

The 78th descends from a regiment in the British Army (the 78th Royal Highland Regiment) which originally proved itself under Major General Arthur Wellesley (later known as the Duke of Wellington), first in his campaigns in India and later against Napoleon.

The Regiment suffered greatly during the snow plague and was nearly disbanded. A few of its companies survived as honor guards in Scotland. When the Human Raj attempted to retake its worlds from the Kess Rith it built up numerous fighting Legions, the 78th was reorganized into one and expanded.  Though that effort ultimately failed the unit aqquitted itself admirably. Now primarily an infantry legion in service to the Commowealth it has not seen much action against TOG recently. It will however be mindful of its past traditions when it does.

Uniform notes: The 78th utilizes a standard Commonwealth Royal Army uniform. Dress uniforms make use of a tartan Kilt and shako. In the field instead of a fatigue cap they prefer berets. The Legion's senior NCOs and officers carry Claymore swords (17th century, not 13th) as opposed to sabres.
